The Barcelona chair is one of the most recognisable shapes in modern furniture, and this one is built in the same spirit: a crossed, curved steel frame that carries two thick cushions on straps, divided into squares by buttons. Nothing is hidden, and nothing is there for decoration alone. The structure is the design.
It suits living rooms, studies, reception areas and wide hallways, because it looks good from behind as well as from the front and it does not need a wall to lean on. Choose black for the classic look, brown to warm a room, green for something richer, or cognac for a lighter, warmer note. It can also be bought as a set with a matching ottoman.

Where a Barcelona style chair works best
Give it space
The chair is open from every side, so it earns its place by standing clear of the wall. In a living room it works at an angle to a sofa; in a hallway or study, let it stand alone.
Pair it with something soft
A steel frame and tufted leather are quite hard-edged. A wool rug, a linen throw or a plant at its side takes the edge off and makes the chair feel lived in.
Choose the colour for the room
Black is the classic and disappears into a dark room or stands out against a pale one. Brown warms a room and gets better looking with use. Green is the richest of the four and suits a library or a study. Cognac is the lightest and warmest.
