Curved ivory bouclé accent chair with fully wrapped armrests

Bouclé — Bouclé & Teddy Fleece

The arms run all the way to the floor, so there are no legs

Most chairs sit on legs, which means a visible gap and a hard junction between fabric and timber. Wrapping the arms down to the floor turns the chair into a single continuous soft form.

  • Armrests extend to the floor and are fully upholstered — no visible legs.
  • 91.4cm wide and 81.3cm deep, in soft ivory chenille bouclé.
  • A single continuous curved form rather than a frame with cushions on it.

Furniture design has spent the last few years removing legs. A chair on legs is a frame with upholstery attached, and you read it as two things: the soft part and the hard part. A chair whose arms run to the floor and are fully upholstered reads as one thing — a single soft mass — which is why this shape has appeared everywhere.

It also has a practical consequence worth knowing: no legs means no gap underneath, so nothing rolls under it and nothing needs to be retrieved from beneath it. The trade-off is that it cannot be vacuumed under, and it reads heavier in a small room than a legged chair of the same size. At 91.4cm wide it is also generous enough to sit sideways in, which most accent chairs are not.

Questions about this piece

Curved Bouclé Chair FAQs

01

Does having no legs make it look heavy?

+

It reads as more visual mass than a legged chair of the same size, because you cannot see floor underneath. In a small room, that is worth considering.

02

Can I clean under it?

+

No — it sits flush to the floor. The upside is that nothing gets under it in the first place.

03

What is chenille bouclé?

+

Bouclé is a looped-yarn fabric with a nubbly texture. Chenille bouclé is softer and denser, and it shows marks less than a fine bouclé.

04

Is 91.4cm wide enough to curl up in?

+

Yes, which is unusual for an accent chair. Most are 65–75cm and only allow sitting upright.

05

How do I clean bouclé?

+

Vacuum with a soft brush attachment and blot spills straight down. Never rub — looped yarn pills when abraded.

Legs or no legs: what it does to a room

Legs make furniture look lighter

Visible floor beneath a piece reads as space. A sofa on 15cm legs and an identical sofa on a plinth occupy the same footprint, and the legged one looks noticeably smaller in the room. In a small space this is one of the most effective visual tricks available.

No legs makes furniture look softer

A fully upholstered form with no visible frame reads as a single soft object. It is a calmer, more sculptural look, and it is why the style has dominated recently. The cost is visual weight.

Practical differences

Legged: you can vacuum underneath, air circulates, and things roll under it. Legless: nothing gets underneath, but you cannot clean under it either, and it can trap moisture against a solid floor in a damp room.

Mix them in one room

An all-legless room feels heavy and slightly airless; an all-legged room can feel spindly. One or two grounded pieces against several raised ones is the balance most rooms want.

The rule for small rooms

If the room is under about 4 x 4m, put the largest piece on legs. Whether the accent chair has them matters far less than whether the sofa does.

And check the floor beneath

A legless chair sits directly on the floor across its whole footprint. On a delicate floor — soft wood, or a rug you care about — that whole area is under constant pressure, which will mark over years.

One continuous soft form

91.4cm of curved chenille bouclé with the arms running all the way down.
